Why Tampa patients choose Lavena Health

People choose Lavena for cupping and Hijama because it is done by a board-certified practitioner inside a medical practice, with a published price and clear aftercare. We are straightforward about the evidence: according to the NIH, cupping may help reduce pain, but research so far is limited. Many patients choose it for muscle tension and recovery, and many of our Hijama patients choose it as a Sunnah practice.

What happens during a Hijama session

Dr. Azar starts with your health history and goals and confirms Hijama is appropriate for you. The skin is cleaned, cups are applied to create suction, and for wet cupping, tiny superficial punctures are made so a small amount of blood is drawn into the cups. The areas are then cleaned and dressed, and Dr. Azar walks you through aftercare before you leave.

A dry cupping session follows the same steps without the punctures. Not sure which to choose? Read dry cupping vs. Hijama, or see acupuncture in Tampa and every option on the Eastern medicine page.

Before you book, read our Hijama guide: how it differs from dry cupping, what the research does and does not show, and the risks to know about.

Tampa cupping & hijama — common questions

What is the difference between dry cupping and Hijama?

Both use cups to create gentle suction on the skin. Dry cupping uses suction alone. Hijama, or wet cupping, adds tiny superficial skin punctures so a small amount of blood is drawn into the cup.

How much does cupping cost in Tampa?

Dry cupping is $125 and Hijama is $149 per session, self-pay. Each includes Dr. Azar's assessment and aftercare guidance. No membership is required, and we do not bill insurance.

Who performs Hijama at Lavena?

Dr. Chanelle Azar, a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and NCCAOM board-certified acupuncturist and herbalist, performs every cupping and Hijama session.

Does cupping leave marks?

Yes. Cupping usually leaves round, temporary marks that fade over several days. They are expected. If you see another health care provider in the meantime, mention that you had cupping.

Is cupping safe?

Possible side effects include temporary marks and, less often, lasting skin discoloration, scarring, burns or infection, and cupping can aggravate eczema or psoriasis. Tell Dr. Azar if you take blood thinners, have anemia or a bleeding disorder, are pregnant, or have a skin condition in the treatment area, so she can decide whether cupping is right for you.

Where do I go for Hijama near Tampa?

5340 E 131st Ave, Suite 106 in Temple Terrace, beside USF and about 20 minutes from downtown Tampa. Cupping and Hijama are in person only.
