Women who look into hormone therapy for perimenopause or menopause usually hit the same wall: a price that is hard to pin down. A clinic quotes a monthly fee, and then the labs, the visits and sometimes the medication turn out to be extra. Here is what women's hormone therapy costs at Lavena Health in Tampa, what the price covers, and what it does not.
The price: starting at $150 a month
Women's hormone therapy at Lavena Health starts at $150 a month. That covers your medication, your physician visits, dosing and ongoing monitoring.
What is not included: lab work
Lab work is not included in the $150, and we would rather you know that before you start. You have two ways to pay for labs:
- Your insurance. The lab, not Lavena, bills for lab work, so if your plan covers the panel your physician orders, you can run it through Quest on your insurance and pay whatever your plan leaves you.
- Member pricing. If your plan does not cover it, or your deductible makes it pointless, our member rate is over 50% below what the same panel costs on your own.
Either way, you are told the price before anything is drawn.
Why prices are hard to compare
When you compare clinics, check what each price actually includes. Common add-ons elsewhere are separate lab fees, per-visit charges for follow-ups, medication billed on top of a program fee, and procedure fees for pellet insertion. A low headline number can turn into a much larger monthly total once those are added.
Good questions to ask any clinic: Is the medication in the monthly price? Are follow-up visits? What do labs cost, and when are they repeated? Does the price change with the dose?
Why monitoring is part of the price
Hormone therapy is not a prescription you start and forget. At Lavena, the physician who writes your plan reviews your rechecks and adjusts your dose, and that follow-up is included rather than billed visit by visit.
Insurance, HSA and FSA
We do not bill insurance for our own services, so there are no copays or prior authorizations. You can pay with an HSA or FSA card, and we provide an itemized receipt. Whether a particular service is eligible depends on your plan, so check with your plan administrator. More detail is on our insurance, HSA and FSA page.
About compounded hormones
Some hormone prescriptions are compounded by a state-licensed pharmacy for you individually. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. Your physician explains what is being prescribed and why. See our hormone therapy disclosures.
