Low testosterone symptoms & diagnosis in Tampa
Low testosterone is treatable — but only after a physician confirms it, and the symptoms overlap with enough other conditions that guessing is a bad idea. This page covers what low testosterone actually looks like in men and how we confirm or rule it out at Lavena Health in Tampa. If your labs and symptoms line up, treatment is covered on our TRT page.
Symptoms that warrant testing
Low testosterone can show up quietly, and many of its signs overlap with ordinary stress and aging — which is exactly why bloodwork matters. Men we see often describe persistent fatigue that rest doesn't fix, reduced sex drive or erectile changes, brain fog, low motivation and mood, loss of muscle or strength despite training, more body fat around the middle, and poorer sleep. These also overlap with thyroid problems, sleep apnea, depression, and simple overtraining. None of them alone confirms a diagnosis — they are reasons to test, not conclusions on their own.
- Low energy and daytime fatigue that rest doesn't fix
- Reduced sex drive or erectile changes
- Shrinking muscle, rising body fat despite effort
- Low mood, irritability, or lost drive
- Brain fog and poor concentration
How we diagnose it
Diagnosis starts with a full hormone and safety panel, drawn before any treatment. That typically includes total and free testosterone measured in the morning and often confirmed on a second draw, alongside the markers we use to interpret the result and safeguard treatment: LH/FSH, estradiol, SHBG, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a complete blood count for hematocrit, and metabolic and thyroid labs where relevant.
A single mid-day number is not enough to diagnose or dismiss low testosterone. Dr. Saleh reviews everything with you, and treatment is offered only when your labs and symptoms genuinely align — sometimes the panel points to something else entirely, and we would rather find that than treat the wrong problem.
Lab work is billed separately at member-discounted rates, or you can run the panel through Quest on your insurance if it covers it. You get the price before anything is drawn.
If your labs confirm it: what happens next
If TRT is appropriate, a physician sets your protocol, monitors your response and safety labs over time, and adjusts. The goal is a steady, safe, symptom-relieving level — not the highest possible number.

Common questions
Do I need low testosterone symptoms to get tested?
Testing is guided by symptoms plus risk factors. If you have several symptoms such as low energy, reduced sex drive, brain fog, or body-composition changes, a morning testosterone panel is a reasonable next step — and it's part of your first visit at Lavena.
How much does TRT cost in Tampa?
At Lavena Health, TRT is a flat $150/month covering your medication, physician visits, dosing, and monitoring. Lab work is not included in that rate. You can run your labs through Quest on your insurance if it covers them, or use our member pricing — over 50% less than the same panel costs on your own. Either way you get the price before anything is drawn. No insurance and no surprise add-ons.
Is TRT safe?
For appropriately selected men with confirmed low testosterone, physician-monitored TRT is well established. Safety depends on correct diagnosis, proper dosing, and regular monitoring — which is why we don't prescribe it without labs and follow-up.
Can I do visits from home?
Yes — after your initial in-person visit and labs, most TRT follow-ups can be done by telehealth for Florida residents.
