GLP-1 & Weight-Loss Program Disclosures

Last updated: October 2026
Who this applies to
These disclosures apply to weight-loss, metabolic and GLP-1 services provided by Lavena Health, LLC (“Lavena Health”), in person at our Temple Terrace clinic or by telehealth.
No guarantee of results
- Weight-loss results vary from person to person.
- No specific amount or rate of weight loss is guaranteed.
- Results depend on many factors, including adherence, nutrition, activity, sleep, other medications and medical history.
Prescription at your physician’s discretion
- Medication is prescribed only when your physician decides it is clinically appropriate. Not everyone qualifies.
- Lab work or an in-person evaluation may be required before or during treatment, and abnormal results may change or stop treatment.
- Treatment may be paused or stopped at any time for safety reasons.
Medication risks
GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide carry risks. The FDA-approved labeling includes a boxed warning about the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors; these medications are not used in people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Other warnings in the labeling include:
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
- Gallbladder problems, including gallstones
- Low blood sugar, especially with insulin or a sulfonylurea
- Kidney injury from dehydration, usually after vomiting or diarrhea
- Severe stomach or bowel side effects
- Allergic reactions
- Eye complications in people with type 2 diabetes
- An increase in heart rate
- Risk of inhaling stomach contents during anesthesia or deep sedation — tell any surgeon or anesthesiologist you take a GLP-1
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and stomach pain. Your physician reviews the medication guide with you and adjusts your dose to how you respond.
Compounded medications
When a compounded GLP-1 is prescribed, it is prepared by a state-licensed 503A pharmacy for you individually. In the FDA’s words, “compounded drugs are not FDA approved,” which “means the agency does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are marketed.” Your physician will tell you whether your medication is FDA-approved or compounded, and which pharmacy dispenses it. Our partner pharmacies are listed on our partner pharmacies page.
Off-label use
Some medications may be prescribed off-label when your physician judges it clinically appropriate and it is legally permitted. Off-label prescribing is a common, accepted medical practice, and your physician will tell you when it applies.
Not a substitute for lifestyle change
- GLP-1 medications are not a cure for obesity.
- They do not replace nutrition, physical activity and behavior change.
- Weight regain can occur after stopping the medication, and long-term use may be needed to maintain results.
