Erectile Dysfunction Treatment Disclosures

Last updated: October 2026
Who this applies to
These disclosures apply to erectile dysfunction (ED) treatment provided by Lavena Health, LLC, in person at our Temple Terrace clinic or by telehealth.
Prescription at your physician’s discretion
- ED medication is prescribed only when your physician decides it is clinically appropriate. Not everyone qualifies.
- Your physician reviews your heart health, blood pressure and full medication list before prescribing, and may require labs or an in-person visit.
Medications
Generic sildenafil (Viagra) and generic tadalafil (Cialis) are FDA-approved for erectile dysfunction. For men who need more than one medication, your physician may prescribe a combination formula compounded by a state-licensed 503A pharmacy. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, and the FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are marketed. Your physician will tell you which you are receiving and which pharmacy dispenses it.
Who must not take PDE5 medicines
- Anyone using nitrates or nitrites in any form, such as nitroglycerin
- Anyone taking a guanylate cyclase stimulator such as riociguat
- Anyone allergic to the medicine or its ingredients
Warnings from the FDA labeling
- Sexual activity carries cardiac risk; tell your physician about any heart condition.
- An erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism) needs emergency care.
- Stop and seek care right away for sudden loss of vision or sudden decrease or loss of hearing.
- Blood pressure can drop when combined with alpha-blockers or other blood-pressure medicines.
- The FDA labeling advises against combining these medicines with other PDE5 medicines or other ED treatments: those combinations have not been studied for safety or effectiveness, and blood pressure can drop further. Combination formulas fall outside the FDA labeling and are prescribed only after your physician reviews your health and medications.
- These medicines do not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
Common side effects
Headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, back pain, muscle aches and, with sildenafil, abnormal vision.
